Giving Power to Words - Repost.

I originally posted this after the Michael Richards comments, but thought it was worth the reprint with all this burying the N-word stuff.

I mean what's that all about. Proclamations, Burials, Laws (with no penalties) - and for what - to stop the use of the N-word.

Nigga Please.

I know that sounds insensitive but think about it. For all their posturing, they could use all that energy and really do something to impact the black community. Hearing folks say the N-word is not holding us back. Falling for dumb -ish like this is.

Anyway, in my opinion, words are only effective when you give power to them. I guess that power flips like a switch when the words come out of white mouths. But why? Do you resemble the words? If not. let it go.

Check out this Dave Chappelle stand up routine from back in the day, and you will catch my drift.

ROFL. Alright...I'm late on this...but I have been MIA. I am not afraid of the word. I was not offended by the comment. I am however pissed that every white person I encounter keep asking me why it is alright for "us" to say it and not "them". LOL

If the man is a racist that is his choice. We all make choices that may not be the best in the long run. But the media needs to let it go and report something worth hearing.

My thing is how much we play a role in perpetuating the definition of the word. That's what really needs to be examined, and it cannot be dictated. Each one must look at him or herself. The painful truth is that some of us are to ignorant to even do that.
*Sigh*

You are so right! Words are only effective when we give power to them. That comedy clip was hilarious! Dave has a point!

I concur....... people give words power.......

As the bible says...life and in death is in the power of the tongue....

Sojourner that is so true. Acting like one does more harm than simply using the word.

It's like Chris Rock said a long time ago. I love me some black people, but I hate niggers.

He was talking about the actions of the ignorant, not the words.

Paula D - Welcome! Glad to have you. Please come back again.

Ticia -- glad to see you stop by.

Life and Death is in the power of the tongue, but join that with "as a man thinketh, so is he" and it really drives my point home.

I don't identify with a negative reality, therefore it doesn't bother me.

while I am making a conscious decision not to carelessly fling niggas around (the word - sometimes I WUSH I could fling around the actual people who deserve that term;-)...i think this whole "proclamation" to bury the N-word is ANOTHER example of taking advantage of u$...u know how much money the airlines, hotels, tee-shirt vendors, etc. made because people actually ATTENDED that "burial"??? :rolling my eyes & shaking my head:.....i swear, niggas....

Nigga this...Nigga that...nigga, nigga, nigga...NEGRO'S PLEASE!

I've stated this before, but I'll reiterate...if it don't apply to you, shut the help up about. I soooo agree with the fact that we spend way too much time worry about petty bs like using the word nigger instead of more pressing issues...ie education & economic/social stability.

Yeah I use the word...when it's appropriate. Black, White, Puerto Rican...it don't matter. If you exhibit ignorant behavior on a regular basis...than you a nigga in my book. For me it's not a race thing...it's used based on the individual I'm dealing with at the time.
