No Axe to Grind

This past weekend, I bypassed the plans I had -- writing -- to do something my wife wanted me to do -- hang drywall, all weekend long [frown]. I guess I am happy that she is happy, so it’s all good. Anyway, while working, I was watching/listening to the first season of “Good Times” on DVD and I realized that in many ways, we are fighting the same societal ills (high fuel prices, low wages, deficiencies in the education system, crooked political system, crooked preachers, etc.). So, that got me to thinking. Instead of my being in this mode of “fight, fight, fight”, I think I want to take a break and just be happy for a while. Be happy for what I have. Be happy for my family, be happy for my health, and be happy for just the sake of being happy. For a moment I’m going to take my eyes off “the man” (just a side note: if you really pay attention you will find that he has no color) and just enjoy life. I’m not saying I’m going to live in denial, I’m just going to live life from a position of gratitude. So, what are you thankful/happy for?

Even warriors need a rest. What sense to fight if you cannot enjoy the benefits? Simplicity is one of my mantras. Enjoy simple things, it helps when fighting the big stuff.

I hope you enjoy your happy times.

Seriously, I am thankful for this post and any like it. It reminds me that even though my money is tight, I still have what I need. :)

just to at least have a mind to be humble and to be a critical thinker. god has blessed me to be a critical thinker - but not to be critical of others in a judemental fashion. i can call a spade a spade without taking someone's dignity in the process. i am thankful for another day to try to get it right with myself and my fellow man. now if i can just be as balanced with myself in how i judge myself and allow myself the grace to grow that i allow others - maybe i can really come up. of course there are many other things i am thankful for, health, healthy children, food, a roof etc. but i would be all day listing them all. i just thought i would share a few.

Congrats on serving your wife in spite of your (good) plans to write during the weekend. You blessed her heart, man, and that makes you a hero. Enjoy everything she does for you in response.

Answering your question, I am thankful for the uncompromising ways that my wife is standing by me these days. There are a ton of little and BIG things that she does daily, things that encourage me to fulfill my ambitions and to trust God as I go toward success. God blessed me with a good one (and I know all too well what a bad one is!).

I'm thankful that U have reached that "Eureka" moment, Bro Rich - cuz too many folk are dying of stress. I'm thankful that this year & a half of partial employment has taught me that I REALLY WILL be oKAY under a variety of circumstances. And I will CERTAINLY appreciate/be thankful for a FULL salary again when it comes this way;-).

If u notice (ever scroll down on my blog;-) I'm feeling the same vibe - hence my section: U just have to LAUGH ... Humor has been our saving grace!

I made the decision a while ago to stop fighting. Just go with the flow. And it's been so freeing. So I'd have to say, other than family of course, I'm most thankful for peace of mind.

It's so nice to read posts like this. I'm happy that God has given me peace and direction in my life, and that He's seen to it that me, my family, and my friends have made it safely to another holiday season.
