You can die from someone else's misery -- emotional states are as infectious as diseases. You may feel you are helping the drowning man but you are only precipitating your own disaster. The unfortunate sometimes draws misfortune on themselves; they will also draw it on you. Associate with the happy and fortunate instead.
In his own time Simon Thomas was a great doctor. I remember that I happened to meet him one day at the home of a rich old consumptive: He told his patient when discussing ways to cure him that one means was to provide occasion for me to enjoy his company: He could then fix his eyes on the freshness of my countenance and his thoughts on the over-flowing cheerfulness and vigor of my young manhood; by filling all his senses with the flower of my youth his condition might improve. He forgot to add that mine might get worse. -- Montaigne, 1533-1592
Law 11: LEARN TO KEEP PEOPLE DEPENDANT ON YOU
To maintain your independence you must always be needed and wanted. The more you are relied on, the more freedom you have. Make people depend on you for their happiness and prosperity and you have nothing to fear. Never teach them enough so that they can do without you.
The Two Horses
Two horses were carrying two loads. The front horse went well, but the rear horse was lazy. The men began to pile the rear horse's load on the front horse; when they had transfered it all, the rear horse found it easy going, and he said to the front horse: "Toil and sweat! The more you try, the more you have to suffer." When they reached the tavern, the owner said; "Why should I fodder two horses when I carry all on one? I had better give one all the food it wants, and cut the throat of the other, at least I shall have the hide." And so he did. -- Fables, Leo Tolstov 1828-1910

Being around negative people will rub off on you I don't care how positive you are.

Law 11: LEARN TO KEEP PEOPLE DEPENDANT ON YOU
I live and die by that creed. I mean its messed up way to think but very effective...lol
think postive...act postitve...and you'll become a positive person.
i live by that mantra.
good post, bruh
I think therefore I am. Interesting post....Poor little horsey...
Yeah homey, these two might have some real validity... definitely something to think about!
but how do u find a balance
between helping the down-n-out loved ones
while not letting them bring u down?
-1-
i have learned that it is imperative to love "damaged" loved ones from a distance. The wild thing is the more self-sufficient I become the more folk seem to look to me for support - so, i'm living #11 without trying...
I definately watch the company I keep. And WOW to the horse story lol, dang.
I love yoru 48 laws of power post bro they are real well written...I disagree with sheila for the simple fact that a person who knows the affects negativity simply stand strong around negative people. For the simple fact they know nothing they say or do will affect them..
you have no idea how appropriate this is and how on time this is.
