Monday Memories

On my last post, Miz mentioned that she liked Tavares. I hadn’t heard that name in a long while, and couldn’t remember anything they did off the top of my head, so I went to good old You Tube and found some of their music. I don’t have any particular memories surrounding this group except remembering one of my Uncles had a green Grand Torino around this time. The group did have some hits back in the day. The songs I remember, thanks to You Tube are Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel and Don’t Take Away The Music. I was also surprised that they covered a song by Hall and Oates (those boys were bad). Which version do you like better?
She’s Gone.

Dude I remember these cats. I was living in the north east when they were hot. They also did a cut, "More Than A Woman" on the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. Both their version and the Bee Gees version was on the same record. You know whose the brothers liked better.

Yeah, I remember More Than A Woman, but I have to admit, I was more into the Bee Gees back then, maybe it was because we lived on the Southside of Jacksonville at the time. That area was predominantly white during those years, so we were "special". I think there were about 4 or 5 black families in the apartment complex we lived in at the time.

Back then, i was probably 8 or 9 years old, and two of the little girls i played with in Detroit, down the street from my cousins house, their father was one of the singers in Tavares...oh we used to fight, every other weekend, but i really liked them two girls. All my summers in Detroit were memorizing.

Hall & Oates, all day and every day! Tavares did great work back in the day, but Hall & Oates grabbed my ear from the moment I heard "I Can't Go for That (No, No)" a loooooooooong time ago. LOL--I remember my shock when I learned that they WERE NOT Black!
