What Recession?

I got a letter from the government
The other day
I opened
And read it
It said they was suckers…
Public Enemy - Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos

This week if you filed your taxes electronically you will get your “rip-off rebate” disguised as an economic stimulus check. The Bush Administration must be feeling a little sorry for jacking us of our loot the last FOUR years (the first four were nothing compared to these) so they have found a way to give it back and look like heroes at the same time.

I've said it before, the government could really do something about the economy if they wanted to as opposed to giving us a check we will have to account for on your taxes next year. We already covered some of that logic in a previous post. And while I’m sure most people will not be stamping “return to sender” on their checks, please believe it’s not going to make things better. Gas is almost $4/gallon and milk and other staple goods are keeping pace. Folks will run through this money before the week ends, because most households are already juggling just to keep up. This "stimulus" check just keeps you in the game longer - it still won't lower your chances of getting hurt. If they really wanted to give the economy a jolt, instead of putting billions into yet another senseless war, they could give the countries beloved negro's their reparations check. Cause nobody spends money like black folks yelling "I’m rich beeyotch!"

Respect, and my right fist is in the air for the Public Enemy quote.

The tangled web of deception is getting thick and dusty in the White House. I agree completely with you, black. I don't believe our country's Blacks will ever see true reparations unless we follow Japan's model from the Eighties: take over corporate America just enough to scare the powers that be into doing whatever fosters good will economically between us-- and then move the proceeds overseas and thumb our collective noses at the US of A. The unity needed to do it is the tough part. Three decades later, we are still saying the same things about our community and how the government serves it raw and dry...

Nice post, bruh.

you are not lying about food prices! I have to actually shop at three different grocery stores plus two to three different green grocers in order to get what I need at the best price. but is it really the best price if I have to travel all over Brooklyn to get these deals? I'm so through with shopping... anyone know a wealthy old man I can marry? I'm about to turn into Anna Nicole real quick!

we will have to account for on your taxes next year. lol. nothing like the fine print. the government is smart.

lov the chuck d reference. always a favorite growing up.

i wish they would give black folks what they promised us - forty acres and a mule. but that would be too much like right.

The Jaded NYer said...

@don- whatinthehell are you going to do with a mule in 2008??? Even "third world countries" have tractors! LOL

I am not feeling the stuff. For one because my child is 17, she is not eligible for the child tax credit. I can claim her as an exemption. So since she did not qualify for child tax, I cannot get stimulus money for her. The gubment is a biyatch. LOL. I am out over a grand because they changed things from last year. That sh*& ain't right.

@jaded nyer -- you got me rolling about the 40 acres and a mule comment. I'll take the cash equivalent.

@don - I'm assuming that is the case, because the last check Bush and Co. gave us had the same strings attached to it.

@shai -- I hear you. My 19yr old costs me more now that she is in college and I get no love from the goverment on that. I'm just glad she did her part and got that scholarship money coming in.

Rich - you are so on point with this one, and yes i too believe we will be claiming that refund next year, so enjoy it while you can.

Hmmm, what if u don't cash it ...will u still have to claim it next year? I owe - so, this li'l $timulation don't apply to me anywho.

There's a WHOLE lot that the Gubment COULD do. Y'all can wait on reparations if ya wanna...as my Daddy says - you'll be a HEAD waiter! LOL! Black folk ALWAYs been finding creative ways to survive & thrive... i don't always know HOW - but I know that I WILL be ALRIGHT cuz i come from an ALRIGHT bunch of folk;-)...

Funny you say that Cap. I was just telling a buddy of mine that black folks will be alright. We know how to make it through hard times. I think middle class white America are the people who will be most affected by the economy.

@ jaded nyer: lmao. i honestly don't know what i would do with the mule or the forty acres. it's the principle i guess.
